This volume presents new approaches in Easy Language research from three different perspectives: text perspective, user perspective and translation perspective. It explores the field of comprehensibility-enhanced varieties at different levels (Easy Language, Plain Language, Easy Language Plus). While all are possible solutions to foster communicative inclusion of people with disabilities, they have varying impacts with regard to their comprehensibility and acceptability. The papers in this volume provide insights into the current scientific activities and results of two research teams at the Universities of Hildesheim and Mainz and present innovative theoretical and empirical perspectives on Easy Language research. The approaches comprise studies on the cognitive processing of Easy Language, on Easy Language in multimodal and multicodal texts and different situational settings as well as translatological considerations on Easy Language translation and interpreting.

Often, texts come across a translator’s desk full of references to international organisations and institutions which are usually referred to by their official name or by their known abbreviation.
At first glance, it may seem that translating these terms is not that important. However, due to the extensive and frequent use of names and acronyms in English, the reality is that all international organisations have an official name in each of the most spoken European languages. Since, as translators, the language services we provide are driven by professionalism and thoroughness, it is not only convenient but also necessary, that we translate these references (including their acronyms) into the target language whenever possible, especially when translating legal texts.

Barberá Ubeda, José Manuel, Opciones funcionales y soluciones técnicas en la traducción cantable de canciones del inglés al español: el caso de David Bowie. Tesis doctoral dirigida por Josep Marco Borillo (dir. tes.). Universitat Jaume I (2020).
Se analizan once canciones originales y catorce versiones (estructura; rasgos literarios y musicales). Como resultado, se plantea una tipificación abierta de recursos musicales, acentuales y poéticos de ajuste, y se muestran alteraciones estilísticas y semánticas y tratamientos traductológicos generales. Finalmente, se concluye que, a pesar de las inevitables alteraciones en los valores originales, la traducción cantable facilita la aproximación directa y sincrónica a los mismos, su disfrute y el acceso al original.
Esta tesis doctoral pretende contribuir al estudio teórico-metodológico de la traducción cantable de canciones de un subtipo equilibrado entre sus valores musicales y literarios, como son las de David Bowie. La tesis adapta principios traductológicos generales (continuum entre traducción y adaptación; funcionalismo en tres niveles; descriptivismo con referencia en el original), y propios del tipo de texto (traducción poética; prevalencia del ritmo musical; logocentrismo vs. musicocentrismo; pragmatismo; y aceptabilidad en el ajuste músico-textual, foco especial de la tesis).
La interpretación simultánea es poco conocida entre los oradores de congresos médicos internacionales aunque resulta vital para la correcta transmisión de los conocimientos que se presentan en ellos. Como el producto de partida de los intérpretes es el discurso del orador, la calidad del mensaje interpretado depende considerablemente de la calidad y la adecuación de dicho discurso. Sin embargo, la evaluación de la calidad de la interpretación médica se centra en el producto de los intérpretes sin tener en cuenta la oralidad del discurso de origen ni la posibilidad de adaptar este para su mejor interpretación sin comprometer el contenido.
Esta guía nace con el objetivo de impulsar la colaboración entre oradores e intérpretes para garantizar la transmisión sin fisuras del mensaje, fomentar el uso de la interpretación en congresos y charlas e impulsar la confianza de los profesionales de todos los ámbitos en la contratación de intérpretes cualificados con el fin de aprovecharlos para difundir correctamente el trabajo académico, científico, técnico y humanístico en otros idiomas y países. La Guía práctica para oradores con interpretación simultánea ha sido elaborada por las traductoras e intérpretes Nadia Martín Sánchez e Icíar Pertusa Elorriaga con la colaboración de la Fundación Dr. Antoni Esteve. Ofrece una serie de consejos útiles para garantizar la correcta transmisión del mensaje científico, como por ejemplo facilitar previamente todo el material al intérprete y establecer una colaboración con estos profesionales. También proporciona recomendaciones para dirigirse al público de la manera más eficaz posible, facilitando a su vez la traducción simultánea.
