Ethics and Aesthetics of Translation engages with translation, in both theory and practice, as part of an interrogation of ethical as well as political thought in the work of three bilingual European authors: Bernardo Atxaga, Milan Kundera and Jorge Semprún. In approaching the work of these authors, the book draws upon the approaches to translation offered by Benjamin, Derrida, Ricœur and Deleuze to highlight a broad set of ethical questions, focused upon the limitations of the monolingual and the democratic possibilities of linguistic plurality; upon our innate desire to translate difference into similarity; and upon the ways in which translation responds to the challenges of individual and collective remembrance. Each chapter explores these interlingual but also intercultural, interrelational and interdisciplinary issues, mapping a journey of translation that begins in the impact of translation upon the work of each author, continues into moments of linguistic translation, untranslatability and mistranslation within their texts and ultimately becomes an exploration of social, political and affective (un)translatability. In these journeys, the creative and critical potential of translation emerges as a potent, often violent, but always illuminating, vision of the possibilities of differentiation and connection, generation and memory, in temporal, linguistic, cultural and political terms.

Chinese Poetry and Translation: Rights and Wrongs offers fifteen essays on the triptych of poetry + translation + Chinese. The collection has three parts: «The Translator’s Take,» «Theoretics,» and «Impact.» The conversation stretches from queer-feminist engagement with China’s newest poetry to philosophical and philological reflections on its oldest, and from Tang- and Song-dynasty classical poetry in Western languages to Baudelaire and Celan in Chinese. Translation is taken as an interlingual and intercultural act, and the essays foreground theoretical expositions and the practice of translation in equal but not opposite measure. Poetry has a transforming yet ever-acute relevance in Chinese culture, and this makes it a good entry point for studying Chinese-foreign encounters. Pushing past oppositions that still too often restrict discussions of translation-form versus content, elegance versus accuracy, and «the original» versus «the translated»-this volume brings a wealth of new thinking to the interrelationships between poetry, translation, and China.

This open access volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 27th biennial conference of the German Society for Computational Linguistics and Language Technology, GSCL 2017, held in Berlin, Germany, in September 2017, which focused on language technologies for the digital age. The 16 full papers and 10 short papers included in the proceedings were carefully selected from 36 submissions. Topics covered include text processing of the German language, online media and online content, semantics and reasoning, sentiment analysis, and semantic web description languages.

The three concepts mentioned in the title of this volume imply the contact between two or more literary phenomena they are based on similarities that are related to a form of ‘travelling’ and imitation or adaptation of entire texts, genres, forms or contents. Transfer comprises all sorts of ‘travelling’, with translation as a major instrument of transferring literature across linguistic and cultural barriers. Transfer aims at the process of communication, starting with the source product and its cultural context and then highlighting the mediation by certain agents and institutions to end up with inclusion in the target culture. Reception lays its focus on the receiving culture, especially on critcism, reading, and interpretation. Translation, therefore, forms a major factor in reception with the general aim of reception studies being to reveal the wide spectrum of interpretations each text offers. Moreover, translations are the prime instrument in the distribution of literature across linguistic and cultural borders thus, they pave the way for gaining prestige in the world of literature. The thirty-eight papers included in this volume and dedicated to research in this area were previously read at the ICLA conference 2016 in Vienna. They are ample proof that the field remains at the center of interest in Comparative Literature.

En este artículo se presenta un análisis sobre la naturaleza y evolución de las tesis doctorales que abordan los estudios traducción e interpretación (ETI) en España. Con una metodología mixta, esencialmente cuantitativa pero también cualitativa en el apartado interpretativo, se lleva a cabo un repaso crítico de la producción doctoral sobre los ETI en España, contextualizándola en los ETI globales. Los principales indicadores estudiados son el diacrónico, la productividad por universidades, la extensión, las lenguas vehiculares, el tipo de acceso a las tesis, la distribución temática y el impacto causado por las tesis. La principal fuente de datos es BITRA (Bibliografía de Interpretación y Traducción), una base de datos de ETI holística que a fecha de agosto de 2019 recogía más de 77.000 entradas. Entre los resultados cabe destacar una intensa productividad de tesis doctorales españolas en ETI, que se sitúan a la cabeza de la disciplina en el mundo, una distribución abierta de la lengua vehicular y su publicación casi sistemática en acceso abierto en la actualidad.

La transcripció fonètica permet reproduir gràficament els sons de la llengua parlada. Per aquesta raó, constitueix un auxiliar importantíssim per als professionals de moltes disciplines, no només lingüístiques, relacionades amb el llenguatge. Aquest manual (basat en l’última versió de l’Alfabet Fonètic Internacional) proporciona les eines necessàries per aprendre a transcriure fonèticament seqüències de qualsevol llengua. Per tal de fer possible aquest aprenentatge, el llibre va acompanyat d’un enregistrament que serveix per il·lustrar els sons i sobre el qual es basa un capítol d’exercicis. També s’hi inclouen les equivalències amb altres alfabets fonètics i un glossari de termes.
