Groundbreaking study connecting textual and contextual approaches For many of us, our earliest and most meaningful experiences with literature occur through the medium of a translated children’s book. This volume focuses on the complex interplay that happens between text and context when works of children’s literature are translated. What contexts of production and reception account for how translated children’s books come to be made and read as they are? How are translated children’s books adapted to suit the context of a new culture? Spanning the disciplines of Children’s Literature Studies and Translation Studies, this book brings together established and emerging voices to provide an overview of the analytical, empirical and geographic richness of current research in this field and to identify and reflect on common insights, analytical perspectives and trajectories for future interdisciplinary research. La comunicación y el propio mercado donde se mueve la empresa son ámbitos muy dinámicos generadores de infinidad de vocablos y préstamos lingüísticos. La mayor complejidad reside precisamente en concretar significados y, lo que es aún más difícil, en lograr el consenso entre los interlocutores. This book scrutinizes how contemporary practices of security have come to rely on many different translations of security, risk, and danger. Institutions of national security policies are currently undergoing radical conceptual and organizational changes, and this book presents a novel approach for how to study and politically address the new situation. Complex and uncertain threat environments, such as terrorism, climate change, and the global financial crisis, have paved the way for new forms of security governance that have profoundly transformed the ways in which threats are handled today. Crucially, there is a decentralization of the management of security, which is increasingly handled by a broad set of societal actors that previously were not considered powerful in the conduct of security affairs. This transformation of security knowledge and management changes the meaning of traditional concepts and practices, and calls for investigation into the many meanings of security implied when contemporary societies manage radical dangers, risks and threats. It is necessary to study both what these meanings are and how they developed from the security practices of the past. Addressing this knowledge gap, the book asks how different ideas about threats, risk, and dangers meet in the current practices of security, broadly understood, and with what political consequences. This book will be of interest to students of critical security studies, anthropology, risk studies, science and technology studies and International Relations. El propósito de este libro es contribuir al estudio de la literatura colonial desde la doble lectura: se articulan reflexiones que advierten la dominación material y espiritual ejercida durante siglos en Latinoamérica, pero también el surgimiento de una cultura que expresó algunas claves de su diferencia en las artes y en las letras. Los trabajos que conforman el volumen se han dedicado a examinar, por una parte, aspectos retóricos y prácticas reflexivas frecuentes en los textos; y por otra, se observan los procedimientos mediante los que la conciencia criolla ejerció el poder y alcanzó un lugar medular para representar a los sujetos del “Nuevo Mundo”.
